This isn’t so much a DIY as it was a simple life hack I did recently. When doing long highway drives, I often use a radar detector for a little extra help. Trouble is, the bracket that mounts it to my windshield doesn’t work very well.
As you can see, the suction cups don’t stay in their spot anymore and I’ve actually lost one. So instead, I came up with a quick fix.
I applied one side of a picture hanging command strip to the bottom of the detector.
Next, I applied another strip to the bottom, gently connecting the strips together and then gently placed the detector on my dashboard where I wanted it. This allowed me to be sure the strips lined up correctly and then separate them. Then I firmly pressed the strip against the dash and it was all set.
Now the detector doesn’t pull off the window on me and also doesn’t obstruct my view out the window anymore. A Win-win fix.
